Another Loss Leads to Future Success

History has demonstrated that the most notable winners usually encountered heartbreaking obstacles before they triumphed. They won because they refused to become discouraged by their defeats. ~B. C. Forbes

Does that sound like any team that we know and love?

I didn’t get to watch the game last night. I’m trying to be a good wife and share the TV. I love my husband and I know that even though he’s trying to take an interest in baseball, it’s a bit much for someone who isn’t a fan to watch “every single night” as he recently mentioned. I’m sympathetic, really. If the situation were reversed, I know I wouldn’t be even close to as understanding as he’s been with me.

If people would just join my Meetup group and show up at events, it would make things so much less complicated. Alas, for now, I must deal with things as they are, and that is a lonely Orioles fan by herself in Charlotte.

I promise one day I’ll stop complaining about that. (Probably not until after people actually join my Meetup group though.)

As I’m sure you know, we lost last night. I can’t tell you why or where we went wrong. I only know that we shouldn’t assume that our history is being reflected in our present. We have a new team and a manager who knows what he’s doing. We have solid pitching for the most part. Maybe it’s not stellar, but we have to believe that practice and experience builds competence.

We’re going to have bad games. We needn’t worry that another loss is a sign we can’t compete. We are competing. We’re not giving away double digit runs in the late innings like last year. We have a few kinks in the system. We’ll work them out.

Don’t be discouraged, Grasshopper. We have a wonderful season ahead of us.

Thus ends the inspirational message for today. Don’t listen to all the gloom and doom predictions. Listen to me. I’m not getting paid to have an opinion or write posts that generate clicks. (Though, that would be nice. How does one get in on that?)
